The Wangari Maathai Forest Champion Award is open to nominees who have made significant contributions outside of their work-related responsibilities. Nominees, whether living or recently deceased, should be put forward by a third party, excluding family members or business partners. The selected awardee will receive a generous cash prize of $USD 20,000.

    • Technical, social, or financial innovations
    • Application and feasibility of innovative aspects
  2. Empowerment of Others:
    • Social, gender, and youth aspects considered
    • Strengthened networks, social commitment, outreach, and improved recognition of the value of forests
  3. Transferability and Scale:
    • Applicability in local, national, regional, or global contexts
    • Potential for application in other countries
