The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 ABSIP-STANLIB Bursary Programme. In collaboration with STANLIB, this initiative aims to provide comprehensive financial support to historically disadvantaged students pursuing careers in the financial services sector.

Eligible Universities:

The bursaries are available for students pursuing Investment Management-related qualifications at the following esteemed universities:

  • Nelson Mandela University
  • Rhodes University
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of Cape Town
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • University of Limpopo
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of Venda
  • University of Western Cape
  • University of Witwatersrand
  • North-West University
  • University of the Free State

Bursary Candidates:

These bursaries are tailored for individuals with a keen interest in financial services, particularly those studying Bachelor of Business Science, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Science, majoring in subjects such as Economics, Business Finance, Investment Management, Financial Analysis, Mathematics, and Statistics. Here are some key criteria:

  • Full-time students with no permanent work experience (vacation work experience is acceptable).
  • Bursaries will be reviewed annually based on academic performance and fund availability.

Bursary Benefits:

Successful candidates will receive support covering:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation (preferably on campus, but other arrangements will be assessed)
  • Book allowance for textbooks and course materials
  • Stipend based on financial need
  • Laptop (based on financial need assessment)

Bursary Criteria:

To qualify for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Exceptional academic performance (an average of 75% in core academic modules/subjects)
  • Optional but preferable: Demonstration of leadership qualities and participation in extramural activities
  • Financial need
  • Black South African citizenship as defined by the B-BBEE Act
  • Acceptance or enrollment at one of the specified universities

  • Certified ID copies of applicant and parent(s)/legal guardian(s)
  • Academic record
  • Fee statement
  • Certified 3 months payslips and bank statements for parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
